Therapeutic Horse Riding and equine-assisted activities are holistic activities that aim to enrich the lives of people with additional and complex needs in a variety of ways. They involve a therapeutic approach that involves interacting with horses in various ways under the guidance of a qualified therapeutic riding coach.

Each session is individually tailored to the participant and may involve walking or riding around the large arena, which will be set up with a variety of activities to suit the needs of that participant. The way the horse moves imitates the human gait, and the three-dimensional movement of the horse is transmitted through the rider’s body, giving the rider a relaxed and comfortable feeling while constantly building strength, flexibility, and balance.

Rather than using a saddle, we opt for a pad and roller so that the rider can feel the rhythmic and calm gait of the horse. We invite people of all ages to attend our therapeutic sessions and experience the joy of caring for and spending time with our horses.

There are many advantages to this holistic approach to horse riding and equine-assisted activities such as improving coordination, motor skills, and core strength, enhancing posture and balance, and boosting confidence. Therapeutic riding lessons and equine-assisted activities also help to reduce anxiety and stress by having a soothing and calming effect on the participant, as they connect with the horse’s movement and rhythm and focus on the current moment.

Many riders experience an improvement in emotional well-being as a result of this approach Beyond these benefits, therapeutic horse riding lessons are also very enjoyable and interactive for riders. They particularly benefit those with a variety of conditions such as Down syndrome, autism, PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

In addition, it can help those with learning and cognitive difficulties and social, mental, sensory, communication, physical, and mental needs.

Our therapeutic riding sessions are delivered by Mary and sessions are tailored to each individual. Please note we do not take groups for therapeutic horse riding lessons, instead, we offer 1:1 or 2:1 sessions to enhance the experience. We have also specifically chosen two of our horses for these lessons due to their placid and docile nature and long experience working with those with additional needs.
