FAQs
We offer horse riding lessons for both children and adults on their own ponies, whether they are planning to take part in competition or just want to improve their riding.
We also offer therapeutic horse riding and equine-assisted activities with two of our horses that are specially selected for their calm and quiet nature.
We only provide full livery and cannot facilitate DIY livery.
Therapeutic horse riding and equine-assisted activities involves working with horses to facilitate the achievement of a variety of individually tailored therapeutic goals. It uses exercises that improve the rider’s balance, flexibility and muscle strength as well as sensory and interactive skills. A variety of activities and sensory cues are used (matched to the rider’s age and specific needs), which stimulate physical, cognitive and emotional development. Instead of saddles, we use special fitted rollers that enhance the contact and tactile sensation between horse and rider.
Therapeutic horse riding and equine-assisted activities are suitable for a wide range of individuals of different ages with various conditions including autism spectrum, cerebral palsy, attention deficit disorder, PTSD, Down syndrome, and muscular dystrophy. They are also fun, healthy activities with many benefits for people with cognitive and learning difficulties and communication, social, emotional, mental, sensory and physical needs.
Anyone can benefit from this holistic approach to therapy. Research has shown therapeutic horse riding to have many health and wellbeing advantages, from enhancing posture and balance to improving coordination, motor skills, and core strength, and increasing confidence. Beyond these health benefits, therapeutic horse riding is also a fun and interactive activity.
Comfortable clothing and strong shoes such as wellies are recommended. It is very important to wear what you feel most comfortable in. However, for health and safety reasons, shorts and sandals are not permitted.
Also for health and safety reasons, you must wear a riding hat at all times when on a horse – although we do make some exceptions for individual cases in therapeutic riding sessions.
